I bought this in 2006 and it is still an excellent TV. Initially I had to spend some time tweaking the colors, but once done, the HD pictures are amazing. It just occurred to me that I had not reviewed it, so just mention this as there has been no trouble or problems whatsoever in this three-year period.
OK, I'll admit that changing through the inputs to get to the DVD, and then back to the TV does go a bit more slowly than one would like, but that is the only criticism I have.
BTW, I just got the amazing Logitech Harmony One universal remote, which eliminates the changing of inputs. When set up, one button automatically turns on the TV, selects the right input, and turns on the DVD player. Likewise, back to playing TV.
This a great TV for the money, and as usual, Sony has done well. |

This has been a great TV and I've never regretted the decision to buy it. It did have a few problems in the first few months, but I blame that on the delivery people (box looked like it went through a war zone). Sony reps fixed it quickly (component on main board came loose) and it's been great ever since.
I use it only as a monitor on HDMI for my home theater setup (don't to off air stuff or mess with any other inputs). Image quality is top notch for 720p. Even standard definition images look natural instead of pixelated like the other brands. The graphics engine does a fantastic job rendering things correctly regardless of the mode.
I'm still happy after all this time and would do it again. |
This TV should not be SONY

I am using sony since 10 years and after purchasing my KDL-46s2010 then I changed my mind.
I purchased this TV MAy 17, 2007. After using 3 months I am seeing the alien picture on the screen. The color is displaying only in green,, Not able to see clear picture on the screen. Contacted sony and the customer service was great. They arranged local specialist to take a look. They are still working on it ( 4 weeks as of now) i am still waitng to fix the issue from Sony.
it has only one HDMI port; which means, you can either get HD reception from your Cable or Satellite antenna, or your DVD player, or Camcorder. To get around it, you have to unhook one, and hook the other one, every time; it is very inconviniant and unpleasant.
The picture quality is OK, not that great I compare with Samsung or Sharp..Sharp and Samsung provide much better quality, brightness, and speed. the TV freezes; or a big portion of screen turns into Chess type squares with fuzzy colors.
Final conclusion.. SONY is junk.. I would not recommend this to anyone |

Wow! I thought it looked good in the store, but when I got it home....!
While Sony and Samsung lead the field right now, you can forget the 1080p hype. This thing is amazing! Pick one up if you find it at a good price because it will be phased out, no doubt. Nothing to add that hasn't already been said, except to say that if you take the time to tweak it, I cannot image a finer picture on digital HD. My easy chair is about 12 feet away, and this is just about the perfect size. SD channels are not quite as good as on old fashioned TV, but the future will probably take care of that. Again, if you're debating paying the extra money for 1080p, right now, forget it. This is so sharp and bright LOTR on upconverted DVD will make you dizzy! |
Think before you buy SONY

I have been a faithful SONY customer all my life (TV, Computer, Laptop, Camera, Home Theatre, etc) until I bought my latest KDL-46S2000; then things changed.
For starter, it has only one HDMI port; which means, you can either get HD reception from your Cable or Satellite antenna, or your DVD player, or Camcorder. To get around it, you have to unhook one, and hook the other one, every time; it is very inconviniant and unpleasant.
The picture quality is OK, but I compare that to my Sony Tube TV, and not with similar LCD HD TV's in the same price range; if compared with others, Panasonic and Samsung provide much better quality, brightness, and speed. Speed? Yes, speed. When you watch an action movie, sports, or any fast moving TV program, the TV freezes; or a big portion of screen turns into Chess type squares with fuzzy colors.
I know I have been a loyal customer of SONY, but looking at this product, I know I would have had a much better TV if I were looking at other brands. And that's what I will do the next time I buy any electronic product. |
